Nice to meet you.
I'm Renee Comings. I was born in the 90’s, which meant my childhood was right on the cusp of portable cell phones being glued to our hands. After-school activities oscillated between exploring in the woods behind my house, and fighting with my siblings over who was going to use the computer.
When I wasn’t outside collecting grasshoppers or creating cringe-worthy Youtube videos, I was watching movies. I loved how the stories moved me to incredible places and emotions. You can tell a film is good when you leave the theatre contemplating your entire existence. :)
For years I was convinced that I wanted to be a director. When I studied in Los Angeles for a semester, I centered all of my studies and internships around actors. I worked as a teaching assistant at a young actors conservatory and an intern at a talent management company. I thought I had found my calling.
3 months before I was to graduate, the pandemic hit America. Watching how news outlets, politicians, and health organizations communicated about COVID-19 sparked inspiration during those final months of college. I watched our communities become fear ridden, and separate from each other, when we needed each other most. I couldn’t help but feel as though the way in which media was being shared wasn't effective. We were (and still are) living in a time where people get their news off their Facebook feeds and TikTok scrolling. Our institutions needed to rise up to meet that audience.
For the last few years I have been focused on creating content that is respectful and community-oriented, with clarity in mind. My hope is to educate and spark conversation about confusing, controversial or otherwise unreachable topics.
I invite you to take a look at some of my work and reach out to me if you have any questions.
